Spotlight on Presenter Maddi Sullivan

Maddi is an educator, a doula, an artist, a scientist, and most of all a lifelong learner. Originally from New York and Florida she moved to Durham in October 2014 with her family after 16 years in the Pacific Northwest. Maddi has 15 years of professional experience working with preschoolers through adults within the field of science/nature education as an educator, mentor and program coordinator.

She received a BS in Nutrition through Bastyr University in Seattle, and a graduate degree in Science Education through the University of Washington. In her free time you can find Maddi meandering along the Eno River, biking around town, working in her garden, or some other form of playing outside.

Workshop Description: Learning Outside the Classroom

This workshop guides participants through the process of considering the work they do with students in their classrooms to imagine how it might be transformed out-of-doors. Together we discuss barriers, concerns, benefits and many possibilities. Educators will leave with a few concrete and personally relevant ways to bring the learning outside.
