Spotlight on Presenter Ellen McNeill

Ellen McNeill is a Reggio Emilia-inspired educator who highly values the joy and sense of wonder that young children possess. With experience as a preschool educator, learning resource specialist, and behavioral therapist, Ellen has also developed a sense of advocacy for the field of early childhood, namely for the right of all children to have access to high-quality learning environments. Having had the gift of wonderful mentors in the field as a beginning educator, Ellen hopes to inspire fellow educators to engage with their own innate capacity for joy and wonder through their teaching practice.

Workshop Description: “Watching and Wondering” is an interactive exploration of the connections between observation and documentation in preschool classrooms. Both theory (the “why”) and practical tips (the “how”) will be covered through group discussion and hands-on opportunities. Workshop attendees will have the opportunity to identify moments of wonder in their own practice as well as reflecting on moments of wonder experienced by their students. In addition they will collaborate with colleagues on ways to enrich those experiences of wonder by offering new explorations and opportunities in the ongoing cycle of learning.
