The Importance of Babbling: Fostering Language Development

Did you know that babbling is an important precursor to later language development? How can we support our youngest learners on this language journey? Workshop participants will learn the tools they need to foster and support language development in their learning environments. NC DCDEE Approved

It’s Not a Box: Supporting Imaginative Play

Are you looking for new and different ideas for supporting imaginative play? From choosing materials to creating provoking invitations, teachers can enhance the creativity coursing through their classrooms. This workshop will give a variety of ideas for keeping imagination alive in the classroom setting.

Exploring Loose Parts Through Provocations

What do the terms “loose parts” and open-ended materials really mean and what do they look like in an infant, toddler and two's classroom? Workshop participants examine what loose parts offer infants, toddlers, and two's and how teachers can present materials in order to offer authentic opportunities for children to discover. Let’s explore ways to provoke thought, conversation, and play using open-ended materials within this interactive workshop. When a Child Bites: Prevention and Intervention

Biting is a developmentally appropriate behavior often seen in toddlers and two year olds. As a child matures, gains self-control, develops problem-solving skills, and is able to verbalize their needs, they typically outgrow this behavior. Participants will discuss the reasons why a child bites and learn strategies to help them move through this stage of development. NC DCDEE Approved

Building a Classroom Community: Routines, Collaboration, and Connection 

The foundation of a classroom is built around routines and classroom connections. Children must feel safe and connected to their caregivers and know what to expect from their environment in order to explore and thrive. In this workshop teachers will explore the importance of building a classroom community with our youngest children. NC DCDEE Approved

Petite Investigations: Explorations with our Youngest Children

Can you do a long-term project with infants and toddlers? How do you determine what the children are interested in and truly reflect a child-driven investigation? In this workshop we will discuss how to plan and implement an emergent investigation with infants and toddlers. NC DCDEE Approved

Making Our Mark!

From birth to two years early mark making is not the same as writing. Before young children can control their fine motor skills, they need to develop the larger muscles in their body. Participants will explore early mark making, how to help children focus on the process and the experience, and learn how to support their youngest children’s physical development. NC DCDEE Approved

Discovering & Uncovering: Observation, Documentation and Planning

Observing young children with intentionality, curiosity, and wonder allows a teacher to gain deeper insights into each child’s interests and development. This practice makes visible the process of learning. Participants will learn how to observe, document learning, and create individualized learning opportunities for infants, toddlers and twos.
